True North Mortgage, Canada’s largest independent mortgage brokerage, proudly announces a one-year sponsorship with Team Canada Men's Skeleton Athlete Barrett Martineau. It's our second sponsorship for Team Canada's Skeleton Team over the last year.

"I am very excited about my partnership with True North Mortgage this season," says Barrett Martineau.

"Not only have they provided me the financial stability to perform at my best, they have also supported and backed Canadian Athletes."

At True North Mortgage, we understand the importance of hard work and competition, and know that our sponsorship helps athletes continue their focus to represent our country, and strive for their personal best.

I've been training since I was 7 years old.

Barrett Martineau was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. He attended Mount Royal University for Business in addition to continuing his athletic pursuits in Skeleton.

"I've been around sport my whole life," says Barrett. "Born in Calgary, I’ve been training as an athlete since I was 7 years old, and, now 26 years old, I'm currently competing for Canada on the National Skeleton team."

"From the moment I first sped down the Skeleton track at Canada Olympic Park, I fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to devote myself to training with the goal of standing on the Olympic podium one day as a Skeleton champion. Though I started Skeleton in 2010, my intense training and Olympic dream started long before then.

"In 1998, at the age of seven, I began training in Ski Jumping/Nordic Combined. Those 12 years as a Ski Jump/Nordic Combined competitor shaped me into the athlete and person I am today, and provided me with the competitive edge that fuels my dedication, determination and drive to be the best.

"Since my skeleton journey started years ago, I’ve received many athletic accolades and will enter the 2018 season as Canada’s #1 Ranked Skeleton athlete," states Barrett.

It's my goal to represent Canada at the 2018 Olympic Games.

"Over the next year," he continues, "I will continue my pursuit of excellence by representing Canada in the World Cup tour, all while fighting my way to the Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea 2018. Ultimately, it is my goal to represent Canada in a competitive manner at the Olympic Games in 2018."
